This is a 1978  BMW  R100RS  Motorsport.  This was a limited production, high performance machine.
VIN # 6183500  Only 200 were brought to the US. This bike has been slightly modified to make for better handling.
Triple Fork Brace, Oil cooler, Deep oil pan, HD Fork Springs, HD Rear Springs, Koni shocks.

Four owners, all of whom kept complete records. I bought this bike in March of '90. It is the second Motorsport I've owned. Sold the first one in '85 to get a NEW K100RT.  HATED that bike. Sold the RT in '89 then bought this one. Bike currently has 61,812 miles   Has been in most states. Sometimes due to my travel demands, this bike has spent a lot of time also on the road in a North American Van, to get it to where I have time to ride it back.  I have the original side decals, ie: 1000cc, but haven't put them on yet.  (Hey, it's only been thirteen years, I'll get to it) Paint is all original.  Other MS owners will notice the different lower center cowl.  It is off an '80 RS and better fits the oil cooler, which is also off the '80 RS.  I am in the Chicago area, west burbs.
I don't go to many bike functions, but always go to Mid-Ohio in July. Antique and Classic weekend. Best motorcycle event ever, if you like classics.
